AAWRE will sponsor special engineering sessions the week of May 16-20, at the 2010 EWRI World Water and Environmental Resources Congress in Providence, RI. The Academy will conduct three separate 2-hour engineering ethics sessions and an additional two 'How to be an Effective Expert Witness' sessions. These sessions are to provide AAWRE Diplomates and other attendees a convenient opportunity to fulfill annual Professional Development Hour (PDH) renewal requirements. The sessions will be presented as interactive short courses, with opportunities for small group discussions. These sessions will be a solid opportunity for engineers to freshen up on engineering ethics and to gain understanding of what others engineers consider to be the best solutions to specific cases presented. The teams of instructors for the AAWRE ethics sessions are 1) Peter Sheydayi, P.E., D.WRE and Steve Starrett, Ph.D., P.E., D.WRE 2) Jennifer Walker, P.E., CFM, D.WRE and Robert Traver, Ph.D., P.E., D.WRE and 3) David Williams, Ph.D., P.E., PH, CFM, D.WRE and Brian Barkdoll, Ph.D., P.E., D.WRE. The teams for the Expert Witness sessions are 1) Kenneth Goodwin, Esq. and Michael Ports, P.E., PH, D.WRE and 2) David Williams, Ph.D., P.E., PH, CFM, D.WRE and Gary Freeman, Ph.D., P.E., D.WRE.

Professor Vijay P. Singh, Ph.D., D.Sc., P.E., P.H., Hon.D.WRE, an AAWRE Honorary Diplomate, was recently bestowed the Doctorate of Engineering degree by the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada in December. The University of Waterloo awarded Professor Singh with this honor for his accomplishments in his academic career "which has achieved international stature through his outstanding accomplishments in research, teaching, and program development in the general area of water resources and environmental systems engineering." Professor Singh has been invited to address the graduates of the Faculty of Engineering at University of Waterloo's spring convocation commencement on June 19 in Ontario. Professor Singh is the inaugural Caroline and William N. Lehrer Distinguished Chair in Water Engineering and Professor of Civil, Environmental, Biological, and Agricultural Engineering at Texas A&M University. Professor Singh has been recognized for the four decades of leadership in research, teaching and service to the hydrologic and water resources engineering profession. Singh's contribution to the state of the art has been significant in many different specialty areas including, hydrologic science, water resources engineering, environmental engineering and irrigation science.

The Association of State Dam Safety Officials (ASDSO) is currently accepting abstracts for their annual Dam Safety Conference, to be held on September 19-23 in Seattle. ASDSO is seeking professionals from the dam safety community- engineers, hydrologists, government officials, industry suppliers, students & professors, and dam owners/operators, to share their experiences at Dam Safety 2010. Also, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and ASDSO are collaborating for the third consecutive year to conduct the Annual National Dam Security Forum in conjunction with the Annual Dam Safety conference. The Forum will provide participants with the opportunity to obtain information on a variety of technical and non-technical issues pertaining to the safety, security, and protection of the Nation's dams and related infrastructure. The deadline to submit abstracts is February 15.

The Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) is accepting abstracts for the 2010 World Water Week in Stockholm to be held on September 5-11. SIWI calls for workshop abstracts and proposals from participants and organizations to convene a seminar or side event in 2010. Please find guidelines for submission and further information at http://www.worldwaterweek.org/sa/node.asp?node=482.
SIWI is also seeking nominations for the 2010 Stockholm International Water Award. The Stockholm International Water Award recognizes the business sector's contribution to sustainable water management, by minimizing water consumption and environmental impact. It is given to any sector of business and industry. It recognizes improved performance in production processes, new products, and management, as well as innovative approaches in water and wastewater process technologies which together help to improve the world water situation. Learn more about the award and how to nominate at www.industrywateraward.org. Deadline for both submissions is February 15.

The 75th anniversary of the completion of Hoover Dam's construction will be celebrated with a moderated history symposium in Las Vegas on Thursday and Friday (October 21-22, 2010), preceded on Wednesday afternoon (October 20th) by a half-day tour of Hoover Dam, ASCE's Monument of the Millennium dam. The History and Heritage Committee (HHC) history symposium tracks will be held at Bally's Las Vegas on Oct. 21 & 22. The engineering associated with the design and construction of Hoover Dam, its performance over the last 75 years, and the lessons learned will be the theme of this history symposium. A variety of potential topics for papers to be included in the proceedings and potentially presented during the history symposium are provided below. The papers accepted for the Hoover Dam 75th Anniversary History Symposium will be published by ASCE in a proceedings, which will be given out to symposium attendees.
