Message from AAWRE 2017-2018 President Roger Kilgore
It is a great honor for me to have the opportunity to serve as your new AAWRE President! As we begin this new term I would like to thank Ms. Deborah Lee for her outstanding leadership as our AAWRE President this past year and to congratulate Dr. Joe Manous as the new President-Elect.
As an organization, AAWRE should be proud of our accomplishments in 2017 and excited about what we have planned for 2018. Over the past year we have worked to increase the visibility of Board Certification for Water Resources Engineers as Diplomates through our various marketing activities.
AAWRE exhibited and participated at several major conferences in 2017 and we plan to continue this effort in 2018. Specific details about upcoming conferences will be provided in future newsletters. If you would like to help us in staffing these exhibits, or would like to assist in any other marketing efforts, please contact James Barton via our AAWRE LinkedIn webpage to let him know.
For 2018, among our top priorities will be to continue to communicate the importance of board certification to employers of water resources engineers and agencies responsible for the design, construction, and management of water resources infrastructure. In our increasingly complex world, Board Certified engineers are essential for effective project delivery and management.
Another top priority for us, is to ensure that Diplomates experience value in maintaining the highest standards of our profession including maintenance of board certification as a Diplomate. Please let us know how we are doing. You may send me an email at Kilgore.Roger@centurylink.net or to our staff at email@example.com.
As part of our emphasis on continuing professional development, an activity that should be of great interest to many of you is a free eLearning Webinar on December 7 at 2 pm Eastern Standard Time on Applications of Remote Sensing to Water Resources Engineering. Presenters from NOAA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will discuss several of these new applications of remote sensing to water resources engineering. AAWRE 2017 President Deborah Lee will also present on the importance of board certification. Over 200 participants have already registered! To register for webinar, click here.
If you would like to become more involved with AAWRE and its committees, there are many opportunities for you to support the advancement of your profession through AAWRE. Our committees include Admissions, Awards, International, and Marketing. A full list of committees and their members can be found here: http://www.aawre.org/about-us/aawre-committees
Finally, I encourage each of you to recruit your well-qualified water resources engineering colleagues to apply to become D.WREs. We continue to encourage companies to promote board certification in career development plans and as a factor when weighing qualifications within procurement plans for professional engineering services.
Wishing you a joyous holiday season.
Roger T. Kilgore, P.E., D.WRE, F.ASCE
