The American Academy of Water Resource Engineers organized a one-hour eLearning webinar titled Applications of Remote Sensing to Water Resources Engineering on December 7. More than 175 professional engineers and practitioners participated in the event.

AAWRE 2017 President Deborah Lee, P.E., P.H., D.WRE, M.ASCE presented on the AAWRE Diplomate Board Certification and an update on the Civil Engineering Certification, Inc. (CEC) professional academies- the Academy of Geo-Professionals (AGP) and Academy of Coastal, Ocean, Port & Navigation Engineers (ACOPNE). Tom Evans, Ph.D., P.E., D.WRE, M.ASCE, Fauwaz Hanbali, P.E., and Brett Palmberg, P.E. from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Hydrologic Engineering Center presented on the topic of Acquisition and Application of Gridded Precipitation and Snow Data Products in Support of the USACE’s Real-Time Water Management Mission. To conclude the webinar, George Leshkevich, P.E. from the NOAA GLERL presented on Operational Ice Type Classification and Water Quality Satellite Retrievals for the Great Lakes.

There have recently been dramatic advancements in the field of remote sensing and the availability of new information from remote sensing that have many important applications to water resources engineering. The AAWRE plans to organize another webinar on this related topic in early 2018.
