A Message from Daniel Boyd

Dear Fellow Diplomate,

As I begin my term as President of American Academy of Water Resources Engineers for 2009, I want to convey our commitment to communication and outreach to you, our Diplomates. As the year progresses, I will make sure to provide information on AAWRE initiatives, updates on AAWRE public policy activity and other material that will detail what AAWRE is doing to make a positive difference in the future of our profession.

The AAWRE had its successful debut back in October 2004 and has since experienced rapid growth, with presently over 400 Diplomates. This success is a direct reflection of your participation in the Academy by earning and maintaining your Diplomate, Water Resources Engineer (D.WRE) credential. Your willingness to continue to participate as a Diplomate exemplifies your commitment to continued professional development and continuing education for all others to follow. Your commitment supports and helps further AAWRE's mission of 'raising the bar' in water resources engineering.

As we mark the beginning of the 5th year of the AAWRE, we are becoming a significant recognized force in the water resources engineering community. To maintain this momentum, we ask that you please continue to support and further the goals of the AAWRE by showing your commitment to high ethical and professional standards.

The Diplomate credential stands as a testament to life-long learning. I encourage you to show your support of AAWRE's goals by serving as an example for the next generation of water resources engineers in the following ways:

  1. Utilize your D.WRE credential after your name in all of your business correspondence, emails, and business cards.
  2. Recruit and encourage your fellow colleagues and friends to apply to become a Diplomate. There is a prize for all Diplomates that refer new Diplomates.
  3. Mark your calendars for May 18, 2009, as AAWRE will hold a special AAWRE Founding Diplomate Ceremony at the EWRI Congress.
  4. Share your news or achievements with fellow diplomates and the water resources engineering community by making sure they are included in our AAWRE Newsletters. Send email back to: certification@aawre.org
  5. Thank you to those who participated in AAWRE's first Diplomate survey. Here are the results from the survey: for analysis and for analysis chart

Since this upcoming year marks the special 5th anniversary of the program, we must do more to reach out, market, and spread the word regarding the D.WRE credential to our colleagues, associates, and friends. Our goal is to get involvement by quality engineers to join us in helping recognize achievement in water resources engineering.

I anxiously look forward to the upcoming year and serving our members in my new role. I sincerely thank you for your continued support of AAWRE and our goals, and for being a Founding Diplomate of AAWRE.

Sincerely,

Daniel W. Boyd, P.E., D.WRE
